Abstract

In the XIIl th century from different hermit settlements a monastic order was formed in Hungary. Its first monastery was founded in Ürögd near Pécs in 1225. The Order was approbated in 1367 as Order of St. Paul (Pauline Order). In this century numerous monasteries of the Order were established in Hungary. There are many uncertainities coneerning the geographical communities of these. After having dealt with the origin of the order the paper tries to make a topographie determination of these early monasteries and to make conclusions from documents and some ruins about the early architecture of the Order.
