Abstract

The Townscape-Vienna-Budapest- Waterfront of a town is her peculiarity. Vienna and Budapest have in common both to be sited at the Danube. While, however, the town core of Vienna, of Roman origin, exhibits a beautiful townscape, her Danube arms are too insignificant to result in areal waterfront, still impaired by new development out of scale. The waterfront of Budapest united about a century ago from three townlets at the majestic Danube offers a fine townscape from true to scale, although somewhat sweetish, "historizing" new buildings and reconstructions, fitting the river, dating from the turn of the century, and from moderate developments of the latest time.
