Abstract

At High Energy Physics experiments, parallelism allows scalable, high-bandwidth event building systems. On-line event building of physical events is only feasible by using switch- based event builders. The Barrel Shifter is a well-known event building method providing a simple rotating interconnection pattern. A computational method based on matrix operations is introduced for a distributed traffic control. The general form of the trans- formation matrix allows to define several different traffic control schemes that may be divided into two classes. Buffering requirements and modification of the transformation matrix are also examined.
