CHLORIDE ION BINDING ABILITY OF CALCIUM-ALUMINATE, -FERRITE AND -SILICATE PHASES
Abstract
The chloride ion binding ability of C₃A, C₄AF and C₃S clinkers was examined, with special attention to NaCI used for road defrostation. Through thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction investigations it was found that chlorides are bound by C₃A and C₄AF in the form of 3 CaO·AI₂O₃·CaCI₂·10H₂O. Calcium-chloro-aluminate-hydrate formed as a result of NaCI eyen in already settled cement samples. No sign of calcium-chloro-silicate-hydrate was detected by either thermal analysis or X-ray diffraction analysis.
