Abstract

ON LINEAR ADJUSTMENT AND REGRESSION OF MEASURED VALUES - There are three different ways in use for the linear adjustment of the observed values of two random yariables by means of the least squares' method, that is, applying distances of control points from a fitting straight line measured along the ordinate and the abscissa axes, or orthogo- nally, In the following, a general method for linear adjustment will be discussed, involving all three classic computation methods as special cases, and yielding a so-called ..adjustment straight line adjoined to an arbitrary spccified distance direction".
