Abstract

Geodetic method for determining form and deformation of a given surface. Checking the manufacturing accuracy, and testing the deformation under thermal and static loads of the surface of a microwave telecommunication antenna will be presented, with the planning of measurements, the expected accuracy, and evaluation of the confidence of results. Data referring to the shape, position and orientation of the quadratic paraboloid of rotation best fitting points of the antenna surface may be determined by the least squares method using a computer. An approximate method suiting determination of form and characteristics of the fitting surface using a small desktop calculator is suggested. Unloaded (starting) measurement data show the manufacturing accuracy to be perfect, deformations under thermal and static loads to be much smaller than the critical ones.
