Geodetic background of CAD in civil engineering. Geodesy is expected to provide terrain data accessible to a computer for CAD, as well as service programs for evaluating the data in cases where the terrain is decisive for the design process. The resulting digital relief model facilitates spatial design, simultaneous horizontal and elevational design. The likelihood of the rapid extension of CAD imposes to modify study programs.
