THE ANALYTIC ELEMENT METHOD FOR GROUNDWATER FLOW MODELLING

Abstract

The analytic element method is developed to model shallow groundwater flow. It is based on the well known potential theory, though it uses the discharge potential. Its basic feature is the description of each aquifer element influencing the flow with a harmonic function. These individual functions are superimposed to obtain an overall formulation. This presentation of the method is connected to a comparison with the well-known finite difference solution.
