Abstract

The aim of product development is to meet, even more, to form and evolve any requirements of the chosen market segment. It is only possible via the early recognition of real demands and developing products which are flexibly adjustable to the permanently changing needs. Establishment of constructional variants adjusted to a system of abstract requirements with the use of artificial intelligence methods may be faster and their evaluation more objective. Via the example of planar linkage mechanism this paper presents how to apply genetic algorithms in different phases of the constructional design process. The presented method gives a procedure for the automatic solution of problems emerging in early, conceptional phases of the constructional design process.
